Shortly after learning of Jobs' death, Wozniak told ABC News, "I'm shocked and disturbed”. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. "Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple." - Cook wrote in an email to Apple's employees.

He was so successful at keeping the details of his life out of the celebrity pages that a Pew poll in June 2010 found that only 41 percent of Americans correctly identified Jobs as head of Apple. A CBS poll that year concluded that 69 percent of Americans didn't know enough about Jobs. "He's never been a media person," said industry analyst Tim Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies, after Jobs resigned.
